Steely Dan…

Posted in Life and Times! at 12:42 pm by Marg

Were just brilliant! We really enjoyed the concert, but R was a bit disappointed that they didn’t play “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”.

It was R’s first venture to the new Vector Arena (I had seen the Chillis there earlier this year) and there have been complaints in the past about the acoustics there, so he was muttering about “hope the sound is ok…” – And the sound quality was fabulous and we had great seats, 5 rows from the front and on the side of the stage that Fagen played.
My only criticism is that I couldn’t see the horns section very well.

Let me tell you, this was a smooth, totally faultless performance with some of the world’s top musicians. Keith Carlock on drums just blew me away and John Herington on guitar… Bliss! And the backing vocalists were superb!

In the YouTube vid (link below), we are in the area near the end when the guy taking the vid turns round briefly to take in the audience…

And here is a pic that I took…Steely Dan - 22 September 2007 - Vector Arena, Auckland

I might also mention a bit here about my lovely friend Janene who was at the concert too… It was Tony’s birthday (her hubby) and they had been out with friends first to dinner and then to the concert. Being slightly tiddly, Janene was told off a couple of times by the horrible guy in front of her to “calm down…” Naturally this made her and Rhonda (her friend) even more enthusiastic! R is now calling her “The hat thief” after she tried to nick the grumpy git’s hat a few times!!! icon-cool14

Sorry we didn’t make it to your after party babe! – sounded like you guys were having fun!!

Well, recently I have been very slack and neglecting my poor Blog. The reason for this lapse is my new love…Facebook! It is taking up most of my free internet time you see, as I have become well and truly hooked! Ah but I digress, on with family news.

Blair is now in a full-time job. He is working for Clariant in the factory area – not sure exactly what he does, but he seems to be enjoying it. They are a large world-wide company, so future prospects there could be good! Blair started there on Monday. He works in weekly shifts, one week 7am till 3pm, the next week 3pm till 11pm – so he’s quite happy with the hours – weekend work is classed as overtime.

Ross will start at his new job with Vodafone next Monday. He will be in their Marketing division. He has changed jobs as TNS (where he was) acquired a smaller NZ company and decided to use the smaller company’s model for their NZ branch. This meant 40 people losing their jobs – including the managing director! Ross managed to keep his job, but decided to leave as the company’s approach to everything had changed and he was not enjoying his work anymore.

I have been very stressed this week… We have new computers and the updating and re-installing business is driving me mad! Nothing seems to work as it used to – I can’t find half of my old files – New and “Improved” versions of my programs are too “accessorised” – and my poor brain cell can’t take much more in!

At least Facebook is fun! Friends send me gifts, grog and many other mindless activities for me to waste my time on… Ah, truly life can be fun at times!

Oh and Carolyn still hasn’t found the owner of the Elvis photo’s.
