Last week I received an email from my friend Elaine, regarding the Elvis photo’s. She told me of her recent weird experience with photo’s. This is what she said:
“As you know I’ve recently been home to Scotland and was looking for some particular photos from the ‘old photo box that I am waiting for a rainy day to sort out’ – didn’t find the photos I wanted to take back but found a few special ones that I put with my packing, probably about 20 photos in all that I wanted to show my mum and have a laugh with sister and brother etc. On the first day I was there I walked into my brother’s house and a girl from school days was there – I didn’t know that my sister in law and she were pseudo-cousins (you know the aunties/rellies we have that are chosen instead of being related) – and I hadn’t seen this girl since school days …. ahem … 37 years perhaps. I said to her you won’t believe this but in my bag I have a photo of you … took out the school photo and we had a laugh. Wee coincidence and really that was all. A little while later …. I went to my mum’s – she’s 84 and a retired nurse. She said to me ‘oh do you ever bump into someone and you haven’t a clue who they are and you don’t like to say so ….?’ – that day she was walking along and this couple with grandchildren in prams stopped and were hugging her fondly saying how well she was – she hadn’t seen them for 40-plus years – after 5 minutes of bluffing her way through the conversation she realised the man was an old nursing colleague who she trained with. At that point I said, ‘mum don’t tell me anything else’ ….. went into my bag and found a photo of mum in a training school situation with two other students alongside – I said is that man you met in this photo? And there he was …..
Wow – within an hour I met someone and my mum met someone we hadn’t seen for between 37 and 40-odd years and I had their photographs in my bag …. it was a bit spooky! This all within 24 hours of arriving in Scotland.”

Ok, so I never really thought that Elvis would really feature in my life in any small way, but HELLO! this is an event that needs to be recognised! So this is how it began….
Carolyn Gibson (my GURU – She is the best weight loss angel on the planet!) was in France for a VERY special birthday. Carolyn had seen our albums that I had done while we were overseas last year and she thought they were brill. So she asked for my help in creating an album for her. Like I had done, she too was making one for herself and also making one as a present for her friend.
Ok, so album all done, we submitted the order and were awaiting the much anticipated albums….
Friday – 10th August – Carolyn calls me – “Marg, the package is here!” I say, “Open it!” – Carolyn says, “No. I’ll open it when I see you.” I convince her to open it and hang up – after all, we were on mobile and costing an f*ing fortune! (NZ needs cheaper calling plans…. Oh, YES they DO!)
She calls me back. “Did you order a book of photo’s too?” Carolyn asks. “No.” sez moi! “Soooo. Ok Marg, I have two extra albums here. Both the same and both with Elvis Graceland pics, and OMG you will NOT believe how freaky this is….”
“Ok Babe – I will stop off at your place on my way home. See you soon…” sez moi! (Murray and I were having our usual Bowling Tournament at Takapuna Ten-Pin. Oh, and I F*ing lost as usual!)
So! We stop in at Carolyn’s on the way back to the office…
Carolyn presents us with the photo albums that are not hers. Sure as eggs, are eggs (cos they r!) the album(s) are of Elvis’s final resting place (gravestone etc.) and 4 lovely ladies obviously having a ball at Graceland! Pics are really nice and well captioned telling us where and when they were there.
“Ok” sez moi… “so where is your album babe?” to Carolyn.
“No”, she says “there is more!” “Look at these!” – “I found this envelope 10 years ago in our street, and it contains the same photos that are in those Elvis albums!”
NO! SHIT! Sez moi!
Here’s the guff…
Carolyn had rung our local rag, “The North Shore Times Advertiser” on Monday 6th August. She had found an envelope 10 years ago in her street that contained photo’s of someone’s trip to Graceland and also pics of the Twin Towers and Empire State Building. She tried to find the owner of the photo’s by knocking on doors in her street, but had no luck in finding the owner of the photographs. So she told the reporter that this would be a good story as it was coming up to the anniversary of Elvis’ death and perhaps an article in the local rag would grab someone’s attention, and at last she may be able to reunite the photo’s with their rightful owner! The paper said, “Great Idea!” and organised an interview with her.
And then these albums arrived on Friday! How FREAKY is this!!!???
It’s not like Carolyn is an Elvis fan!
So! We have decided that EVERYTHING that is linked to Elvis Presley should be lucky for her, since she seems to attract Elvis in some way or other!
I am naming Richard’s next horse “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Suspicious Minds” or “Jailhouse Rock” — whether he likes it or NOT!
But isn’t it bizarre…..?????
